I have been a doula for almost 8 years and have attended a variety of births through the years. I attend both home and hospital births and have experienced both myself.
I am the mother to 5 children, 8 and under. My first 2 were born in the hospital and the last 3 at home, waterbirths.
My first birth led me to birth work. By most hospital standards, I had a great birth. I really had no interventions and had a vaginal birth. However, I went in thinking that I had an idea of what I wanted out of my birth and came out knowing I had missed a ton.
I went looking for ways to help other women through their pregnancies and learned of doulas for the first time. I found a mentor to help me through the process and quickly became pregnant again.
My mentor then became my doula much to my husbands dismay. He had a very active role in our first birth and thought my desire to have more support at out 2nd was a jab at him. It was not. I wanted a better birth for all of us....me, him and our baby. We had a fabulous intervention-free birth, in the hospital, and I knew I had found my calling.
I truly enjoy helping families realize how wonderful and empowering giving birth can be. Through education and evidence based information, families are truly able to make good decisions regarding their care. With a great careprovider and good support each family can have a wonderful birth and the memories that come with it!
